The Learning Resources Centre

The Learning Resource Centre is a comprehensive and accessible resource for all students. It comprises the Library and the stock includes an extensive range of books, audio tapes, video tapes and the Computer Section. The Library has a number of computers which give access to the internet.

The LRC is open throughout the day and students are encouraged to use the facilities both for their recreational reading and their studies. During lesson time the Library is in constant use both by class groups and individual students. Before school, breaktime, lunchtime and after school students may come to read quietly and make use of the resources to complete their homework or coursework.

At Winton Arts and Media College we give students every opportunity to extend their reading. Each year we take part in the Library Association’s Carnegie Book Shadowing Award. We also offer a student librarian training scheme. Once trained, pupils help out by shelving stock, manning the counter, and assisting their peers during break and lunchtimes.

In conjunction with the English Department, the Library plays host to visiting authors.

We also provide a stationery shop selling: pens, pencils, rulers, protractors, erasers, calculators, book covers and exam packs. This has proved very popular with students and staff.

Throughout the year the LRC hosts special events, these include writing and poetry competitions, quizzes and Christmas performances by both staff and students. Every November we hold a Scholastic Book Fair to raise funds for Library stock and at Christmas we raise funds for various charities.

The college homework club is held in the LRC three afternoons a week, we also run a weekly Warhammer club.
