Rewards and Sanctions
We believe that the creation and fostering of a positive ethos is a major factor in maintaining cooperation and good relations within the school and wider community. Part of this involves maintaining a high level of rewarding students for their successes and continuous praise for their efforts. This creates good school morale and helps keep the focus on learning and achievement. Students and staff expect to be recognised and rewarded for their hard work and honest efforts. A positive ethos plays a major part in keeping discipline issues to a minimum.
Commendation certificates are issued in all subjects and for student endeavour in many non-curriculum areas of the school. Upper school students are encouraged to become senior monitors in Year 10 and apply for prefectship in Year 11. There is no limit to the number of students who can achieve this status provided they can present a commendable folder of achievement and gain the support of sufficient numbers staff. Head boy, Deputy Head boy and senior prefects are selected by interview and student election towards the end of September of the final year.
